Bio

A New York–based journalist/editor, Justin Remus is a long-time denizen of the East Village. Memories of his neighborhood, its collection of oddballs, slower pace, bohemia, and rebellious attitude still stir his imagination. He fondly remembers New York in its previous incarnation before it became Starbucked, financialized, and ubër-chic.
A graduate of the NYU Film School, Justin has been Senior Editor at Smooth Magazine upon its inception in 2001. Smooth is an urban lifestyle publication with a (mostly) black and Hispanic demographic that makes waves in the New York tabloids’ gossip columns. He has written features in the areas of business, entertainment, politics, and sports, plus book and movie reviews.
Justin also writes/edits for Jewel (think Essence), Smooth’s sister publication. He has penned cover stories on Michelle Obama as well as biographical profiles on celebrities such as Patti LaBelle, Judith Jamison, and Rita Moreno.
In addition to writing/editing press releases for personal clients, Justin freelances for corporate law firms, investment banks, and advertising agencies. He contemplates relocating someday to San Juan, Puerto Rico, the jewel of the Caribbean. If and when it happens, he will be accompanied by his cats Honey and Pepper.
